Walk the Talk for Epilepsy March 12 at Tradition Square

PORT ST. LUCIE —— The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida (EFOF) will host Walk the Talk for Epilepsy at Tradition Square, adjacent to Tradition City Hall, at 10489 SW Meeting Street in Port St. Lucie on Saturday, March 12, 2016. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and funds to benefit Floridians impacted by epilepsy and seizure disorders. Registration will open at 8 a.m., with the walk following at 9 a.m. at the amphitheater stage.

“We’re excited to hold our Walk the Talk event at Tradition Square,” said Karen Basha-Egozi, CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida. “It’s a wonderful — and fun — way to support the individuals and their families affected by epilepsy in our Treasure Coast communities, and funds raised will help EFOF provide much needed services.”

Walk the Talk for Epilepsy encourages participants to raise awareness and fundraise in support of the more than 400,000 Floridians living with epilepsy. The Port St. Lucie event will feature family-friendly entertainment for children and adults including breakfast and a warm-up session followed by a beautiful mile-and-a-half walk along the lake at Tradition Square. Activities and guest appearances after the walk include an extreme air slide by Jupiter Bounce, music provided by WZZR Real Radio 94.3 FM, Elite cheerleaders, face painting by Carla’s, interactive activities by Palm Beach Neuroscience Institute, an appearance by the 501st Regiment, a putting contest, raffle, and silent auction. Kona Ice will also be available with refreshments after the walk.

Sponsors for this year’s event include: Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Supernus Pharmaceuticals, Sunovion, Upsher-Smith, Lundbeck, and Cyberonics.

This will be one of nine walks hosted by EFOF taking place in cities across the state through April 17. Other cities hosting Walk the Talk events include: Hollywood, Miami, Palm Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Jacksonville, Pensacola, Gainesville and Naples.

Epilepsy is a common neurological condition that 1 in 26 people will be diagnosed with at some point in their life. The diagnosis is given when a person experiences two or more seizures that cannot be attributed to another cause. It is a disorder more people live with than autism, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy combined.

Now through March 10, registration is $25 for adults and $15 for children (ages 12 and younger). Day-of registration will be $35 for adults and $20 for children.
