Prevention and Education

Epilepsy Alliance Florida offers comprehensive prevention and education services throughout Florida in English, Spanish and Creole languages. Groups that are targeted and provided with appropriate presentations on a regular basis include: Schools (personnel and students), professionals throughout the community, including physicians and attorneys, police, emergency medical services personnel, health care professionals, community based organizations with special emphasis on health and social service agencies, and providers, such as day care centers.

Basic Seizure First Aid

By completing the course, you will be able to:

  • Recognize three (3) common seizure types
  • Describe three (3) basic seizure first aid steps to assist a person having a seizure 
  • Recognize three (3) key factors that would make a seizure a medical emergency 
  • Describe three (3) ways to support persons epilepsy

Seizure in Seniors

By completing the course, Caregivers and staff will be able to:

  • Recognize the (3) common seizure types in the elderly
  • Describe three (3) most common causes of seizures in older adults 
  • Describe what to do if an elderly person has a seizure
  • Describe three (3) ways to support seniors with epilepsy and their families

Seizure Training for Law Enforcement

By completing the course, Law Enforcement Officials will be able to:

  • Identify 3 types of seizures and their features.
  • Describe 3 first aid steps for a person having a seizure with impaired or loss of awareness.
  • Identify at least 2 reasons why a person may need transport to a hospital after a seizure.
  • Understand the unique needs of people with epilepsy taken into custody.
  • Understand the need for consistent access to their medication

Seizure Training for Schools

By completing the course, School Personnel will be able to:

  • Recognize 3 common seizure types
  • Describe 3 seizure first aid steps to assist a student having a seizure
  • Recognize 3 key factors that would make a seizure a medical emergency
  • Describe scholastic, social and emotional supports for students living with epilepsy
