Epilepsy Alliance Florida announced today that it has been named the recipient of a four-year grant totaling $300,000 from Florida Blue Foundation to implement its Health Literacy Matters program.
The organization will use the funds to conduct multilingual health literacy workshops and distribute Coverage to Care manuals throughout Florida. These efforts are designed to increase individuals’ capacity to obtain, communicate, process, and understand basic health information services, enabling them to make appropriate health decisions. The medical community will also be provided approaches to enhance understanding among patients with low health literacy.
“We are beyond grateful to be a recipient of this grant,” said Karen Basha Egozi, president and CEO of Epilepsy Alliance Florida. “Consumers who are better informed about their coverage will be more likely to utilize it, and consumers who use their coverage and access to care will address healthcare issues and improve their overall health and wellness. Thank you to the Florida Blue Foundation for recognizing the significance of this program, especially for those living with epilepsy in our Florida communities.”
