Epilepsy drug first to be made using 3D printer in US

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the first 3D-printed pill called Spritam levetiracetam.
Manufactured by American pharmaceutical company Aprecia, the drug is used to control seizures in people with epilepsy.
A 3D printer will be used to lay down the active and inactive ingredients to create a porous tablet that rapidly dissolves with water. This makes it an important alternative option for people who struggle to swallow their epilepsy medication.
