Mission & History
Our Vision
To provide every Floridian impacted by epilepsy the most fulfilled and productive life possible.
Our History
Founded in 1971 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Epilepsy Alliance Florida (EAFLA) has a long-standing history of being a leading advocate and comprehensive service provider for individuals impacted by epilepsy in the State of Florida. Over the past five decades, we have grown to become the principal agency responsible for state-sponsored epilepsy programs and services in Florida, reaching out to more than half a million Floridians living with this challenging condition.
Epilepsy Alliance Florida originally known as Epilepsy Foundation of Florida, we underwent a significant transformation in July 2018 when we co-founded Epilepsy Alliance America. This nationwide network of community-based epilepsy organizations allowed us to expand our reach and advocacy efforts, ensuring that we continue to address the rights and needs of people affected by epilepsy and seizure disorders not just locally but also at county, state, and national levels.
As the lead advocate in this domain, EAFLA is committed to confronting the full spectrum of challenges created by seizures. Our role extends beyond just advocacy; we provide a wide array of epilepsy-related services that are accessible to everyone, irrespective of their financial status. We function as a centralized resource hub offering insurance navigation, healthcare literacy, and community support services. Our organization establishes meaningful connections between patients and community experts specialized in epilepsy care, thereby offering a multi-pronged approach to managing this complex disease.
With each passing year, Epilepsy Alliance Florida continues to evolve and adapt to meet the emerging needs of our community. Our commitment to epilepsy awareness, education, and advocacy remains unwavering, making us Florida’s go-to resource for all matters related to epilepsy.
