Tara | Change Is Possible, Even If It’s Hard

It’s been 10 years since Tara was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 54. Ever since, she’s been learning to adapt to her day-to-day living even though change has been hard for her.

Tara’s epilepsy diagnosis changed her life in a million ways. She’s been unable to keep a regular job due to her unpredictable seizures and is no longer able to enjoy water activities, like going to the beach or swimming in pools, despite her love for being in the sun and the water. Tara is also no longer able to drive, which is challenging for her because she doesn’t like to depend on others to take her to where she needs to go. Perhaps Tara’s biggest challenge since being diagnosed with epilepsy is the “unpredictability” – never knowing when she’s going to experience a seizure, which causes her to have limitations.

Upon learning she had epilepsy, Tara was lucky to have a neighbor who connected her to Epilepsy Alliance Florida. Since becoming a client, she’s made significant progress through the medical aspect of her epilepsy journey. Tara was able to find the right neurologist who discovered that she was on the wrong seizure medications; her doctor ensured her medications were adjusted to reflect what her body needs.

She’s forever grateful to Epilepsy Alliance because it has provided her with several resources and educated her on all aspects of the disease.
