Adrian is a toddler who has been living with epilepsy since his first few months of life.

Since those early days, Adrian’s mother, Jennifer Molina, has been trying to understand what epilepsy is, what seizures are, and how to locate assistance and resources around her area to navigate the disease. Although Jennifer knew how to care for her child’s seizures and understood the importance of anti-seizure medication, she was still confused about what other services may be available for Adrian.

Jennifer decided to look more throughout her community, to see if there are any services or organizations that help educate about epilepsy and the different kind of seizures that exist. She was encouraged to speak with Adrian’s neurologist and other doctors and ultimately, she learned about Epilepsy Alliance Florida and the many services and resources offered by the organization.

Once Jennifer learned about Epilepsy Alliance Florida, she reached out to the intake department and was eventually assigned a case manager, Stefano Cornejo. During her initial conversation with the case manager, Jennifer realized that the organization provides local resources for epilepsy and seizures, as well as information about what Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) are and the importance of these accommodations in a classroom. She learned about seizure detection devices and how they can be helpful at night for Adrian. The case manager also shared about monthly support groups that are available through the organization to learn more about epilepsy and seizures.

Although Jennifer is still learning about epilepsy each day, she now receives additional support, and ultimately, more care for Adrian throughout his first years of life thanks to the support of Epilepsy Alliance Florida.
