John Fornash joined Epilepsy Alliance Florida in 2018. At the time, he was overwhelmed upon learning he had epilepsy. Aside from not knowing much about the disease, he was having difficulties contacting his doctor’s office and obtaining needed medication. Luckily, his wife came across the organization online while seeking support.
Within two days of joining Epilepsy Alliance Florida, John was able to obtain the medication he needed and gained a better understanding of what epilepsy is. He was quick to join the organization’s support group, which helped him gain even more knowledge about epilepsy.
Ever since, John has participated in every support group he’s had the chance to join. These groups, and other organizational events like Walk the Talk and client dinners, have helped him find connections with others he can relate to. When he noticed memory becoming an issue, he was ready to act on it. Through Epilepsy Alliance Florida, John had the opportunity to join the HOBSCOTCH self-management 8-week program to assist with memory and attention issues. He was skeptical at first about how it could help him, but he soon realized just how helpful it is. After completing the program, John has felt more confident and experienced less anxiety.
John is resilient, optimistic, and always open to receiving help when needed. He plans to continue his participation with Epilepsy Alliance Florida events and is happy to be part of such a supportive community.
