Yammara Sambrine has been part of Epilepsy Alliance Florida since she moved to Miami in 2006. She had her first seizure at age 11. She was experiencing tonic-clonic seizures, violent muscle contractions, and loss of consciousness. Her seizures were occurring very frequently and despite countless medications and treatments, they continued.

Uninsured and desperate for consistent care, Yammara found the support she needed with Epilepsy Alliance Florida. She continued her neurological treatments, accessed medications, and even secured disability benefits and insurance. Despite gaining insurance later, Yammara remained a client. Epilepsy Alliance Florida wasn’t just a resource – it was her sanctuary, a place where she felt understood and supported in her epilepsy journey.

In 2018, after years of perseverance, Yammara’s seizures began to decline and eventually reached a point of control. Empowered by her newfound stability, she embraced motherhood by welcoming a daughter into her life. While challenges persisted, particularly as a single mother in a challenging economy, Yammara wasn’t alone. Epilepsy Alliance Florida stood by her side once more, guiding her to community resources that offered financial assistance for essential needs, like rent.

With the agency’s unwavering support, Yammara is confident that no matter the obstacle, she has a family at Epilepsy Alliance Florida to lean on.
